70 kg ÷ 0.45359237 = 154.32358353 lb

Kilograms become pounds by dividing by that same 0.45359237. This page divides instead of multiplying by 2.20462, because 2.20462 is that factor flipped over and then cut short, so the two routes stop agreeing at the sixth decimal.

Where this number comes from

One pound is exactly 0.45359237 kilograms. That figure is a definition, agreed by the United States, the United Kingdom, and four other nations in the International Yard and Pound Agreement of 1959, and it has not moved since.

Why we divide, not multiply

Many converters turn kilograms into pounds by multiplying by 2.20462. That number is 1 divided by 0.45359237, cut short. The full value runs 2.2046226218…, so the shortened version drifts from the sixth decimal onward, and a tool holding both numbers gives two different answers to the same question. This page keeps one number, 0.45359237, and divides.

How it rounds

Results show up to eight decimal places, matching the eight digits the defining factor itself carries. Rounding is half-up, so a trailing 5 always rounds upward. The arithmetic runs in one step and rounds once, at the end, so no answer picks up error from an earlier rounding step. Above roughly 45 million kilograms the final decimal can be off by a unit or two, because of how computers store fractions; everyday weights are unaffected.

What it refuses

Blank boxes and stray letters get a message rather than a number. So do negative weights. Commas work as thousands separators, so “1,234.5” converts. “12,5” does not: a comma marks thousands here, so that reads as a broken thousands group rather than twelve and a half, and guessing which one you meant is how a converter returns a confident wrong answer.
